Ardis attended 1st 7th grade at Sherman School and her 8th grade year at the Red Owl School. Following graduation, she attended a summer program at Spearfish Teaching College and received her teaching certificate.

He was a hard-working man who believed in helping his neighbors and fellowmen. He hired one of the neighbor boys, Sam Millard, to help him in the woods and later his grandsons, Jason and Josh.
